38%: That’s the share of Americans who would be willing to give up sex for a year in order to travel again immediately, according to a recent survey by online hotel search platform Trivago, as reported by CNBC.

In the same survey — which included 2,000 adults across the U.S. and U.K. — more than 80% of respondents said that the inability to travel over the past year has been the worst part of the pandemic. Besides giving up sex, one in four Americans said they would give up all their savings, one in five said they would leave their partner, and nearly half said they would quit their jobs — all in the name of traveling ASAP.

With travel restrictions making it nearly impossible to plan for international trips, the concept of the dream vacation (and self-care) has evolved. As Marker noted in October, Airbnb reported that the majority of its guests booked properties within 300 miles or less of their home, revitalizing the staycation in the process. And per the Trivago survey, the top dream vacation for both Americans and Brits right now is one in which they can spend time with family and friends.

Desperate times call for desperate tradeoffs.
